The Goodyear Residence
Historic Building Renovation
Buffalo, NY
Project Highlights
The Goodyear Residence is an apartment building, located at 888 Delaware Avenue. Built in 1950, it originally served as a private residence owned by the Goodyear family which has since been renovated into a school and now into high end apartments. The original building fronting Delaware Avenue is the historic structure of which many decorative features have been preserved. The back structure was the Oracle School addition which has been converted into several apartments along with the adjoining Carriage House which has also been made into apartments for a total of 49 units.
M/E Role
M/E Engineering designed the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical components for this historic renovation. The tight space requirements in the ceilings were limited. Our HVAC design included gasfired furnaces, air-cooled condensing units, heat recovery units and gravity heating radiators with associated pumps, etc. The plumbing systems include domestic cold, hot and recirculating hot water, sanitary soil, waste and vent and natural gas distribution systems and domestic water heating equipment. The building is protected throughout by a wet-pipe automatic fire sprinkler system. Electrical systems include power distribution, lighting, telephone, data, television, audio/visual entry, security, IP surveillance, fire alarm and fire department in-building radio systems.
