Central New York Biotechnology Research Center

Biotech Accelerator Building

Syracuse, NY

Project Highlights

Central New York Biotechnology Research Center is a joint venture between SUNY Upstate Medical University and the SUNY Environmental College of Science and Forestry.  The building was designed to accommodate several biotech research programs into one location.  This research facility contains high tech labs and bio-process modules for use as an incubator type facility for off campus research and development.  It is anticipated that the facility will attain a minimum LEED Certified building - Gold.

What We Did

M/E designed a vertical style supply and exhaust system with dual parallel exhaust and supply units. This HVAC engineering resulted in an energy efficient, highly flexible building with a robust infrastructure adaptable to future renovations without adversely affecting adjacent spaces.  The laboratory services were arranged to allow for maximum flexibility.  Each lab is set up with independent controls to allow maintenance staff to independently select room occupied and unoccupied air change rates and pressurization off-set based upon the current occupancy utilizing graphic controls, from a remote location.
