Project Highlights
The first new academic building on the campus in 40 years filling their needs for Liberal Arts studies. The three story, 61,000 SF facility contains classroom, lecture, office, common and support spaces. Departments included in the building are English, History, Modern Languages, Modern Cultures, Philosophy and Women/Gender Studies.
The building was designed with sustainable systems and concepts to benefit the campus which ultimately awarded the project a USGBC LEED Gold certification.
M/E Role
- Hot and chilled water generating plants using high efficiency condensing boilers and evaporative chiller
- Electrical connection to the campus medium voltage 13.2kV distribution system
- Over 60,000cfm of air supplied for conditioning and ventilating the building spaces with enthalpy energy recovery
- Robust building management system
- Low lighting power density (0.74W/sf) utilizing a combination of LED and fluorescent
Critical teaching spaces below the main building mechanical room required additional design features to be included to prevent unwanted noise from affecting the buildings primary focus of teaching. Also, an impressive display of EE Cummings work required specialty display lighting that was also flexible for display variations.
